Plan Ahead
Enrollment opens on a rolling basis and becomes available each November and January. We encourage families to reach out early — availability fills quickly.
South Shore Children's Center is the exclusive provider for the West Islip Union Free School District's Universal Pre-Kindergarten program. UPK provides qualifying 4-year-olds with free, full-day pre-kindergarten, funded by the New York State Education Department.
Children who turn 4 years old on or before December 1st and reside within the West Islip school district boundaries may be eligible for UPK.
Beginning 2028, UPK will be available to all eligible 4-year-olds residing within West Islip school district boundaries. In order to register, please follow the instructions below.
UPK is funded entirely by a New York State Education Department grant. There is no tuition cost for families who receive a UPK placement through the district lottery.
